Poplar Paving Project Announcement

Posted 2/13/24:

The long-awaited re-paving of Poplar/Highway 57 from just west of Collierville-Arlington to Poplar View Parkway will begin this spring. The project was delayed due to the replacement of the water line under the road which started in September of 2020 and was completed during the summer of 2022.

Standard Construction won the contract for this project on 12/19/2023. They will be covering the 2.5 miles with 5700 tons of asphalt and placing around 1000 pavement markers. The traffic signal at Byhalia and Poplar will get minor repairs as well. Because Poplar is a state highway, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is paying the $2.2 million price tag for the paving. The work should be completed by July 31, 2024.

The work will follow the tentative schedule below, pending weather and other scheduling conflicts:

  • COMPLETED: First week of March – Placement of traffic control. Workers will keep one lane of Poplar open for the duration of the project.
  • COMPLETED: Mid-March through the first week of May – Rebuilding of ADA (American Disabilities Act) ramps.
  • IN PROGRESS: Mid-May through the end of the month – Patching of potholes and other defective spots.
  • IN PROGRESS: June 1-30th – Milling of existing surface and installation of new asphalt including temporary striping.
  • First two weeks of July – Permanent striping.
  • Late July – Pavement markers and reflectors.
