Newly employed Police Officers are sent to a Basic Police School for 12 weeks.  Upon completion of the Basic Police School, new officers are assigned to a three or four month comprehensive field training program. This work/training environment develops job confidence and expertise under the direction of qualified Training Officers with prior experience and a POST approved Basic Training School certification, upon employment, can go straight into the field training program.  Also, starting salary for an individual with prior full time law enforcement experience could be higher than the starting salary.  Starting salary is based on years of experience.  

Starting July 1st, the salary range is $48,560 - $70,801 with an excellent benefits and retirement package.

CPD also has a lateral pay program for certified law enforcement officers with experience;
1—3 years of full-time experience – $53,416
3—5 years of full-time experience – $61,155
5+ years of full-time experience – $67,424
