  • Who processes the Town's collected recyclables?

The Town of Collierville partners with the West Tennessee Regional Recycling Hub in Henderson, Tennessee.

The Hub services multiple counties and municipalities in West Tennessee and is dedicated to responsibility eliminating waste through waste reduction programs, litter prevention, and environmental education. The Hub processes 6,500 tons of material per year.

  • Why is glass not accepted in the Town's recycling program?

The West Tennessee Regional Recycling Hub does not accept glass in their processing facility.

By the time the recycled glass reaches the Hub, it has broken into many small pieces. These microscopic glass particles mix with other more marketable materials such as paper, cardboard, and plastics, which reduces the value of those materials and causes damage to the equipment at the processing facility.

Additionally, most of the material is sorted by hand in the Hub, and broken glass can harm employees as well as break sorting equipment.
