Stan R. Joyner is a Collierville native who has lived and served in the Collierville community all his life. He was elected to the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen in 1999 and was serving his third term when elected Mayor in 2008. In 2012, 2016 and 2020 he was re-elected and is now serving a fourth term as Mayor.

While serving as Alderman, he served on the Planning Commission, the Employee Retirement Plan Committee, and the Pension Committee. He is a practical, highly involved Mayor for all the people of Collierville, listens intently to opinions and strives to facilitate any concerns.

Working with an outstanding group of Town of Collierville employees and dedicated Aldermen, Mayor Joyner is a strong promoter of Stewardship, Safety, Service and Schools for the community of Collierville. Keenly aware that many people determine where to live based on the quality of life they will experience he continues to be an advocate of outstanding schools and the growth of business and industry to further enhance the economic development of Collierville.


With a Bachelor of Science in Education from Memphis State University in 1972, Mayor Joyner holds a personal and professional interest in the subject of education. The Mayor worked tirelessly on the establishment of a municipal school district for Collierville leading the way with interactions with State and local associates. The outcome of his commitment and many others has been fulfilled with the formation of a Collierville School System, election of the first Collierville School Board, and hiring a Collierville Schools Superintendent.

He continues to serve the citizens of Collierville based on the values of honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability and supports a financially prudent approach to government, accessibility for citizens, decision making based on strategic planning and relationship building. In March of 2016, the Collierville Chamber of Commerce named Stan Joyner as the “Person of the Year” citing his leadership in starting the new Collierville school district and working to grow the Collierville economy”.  In 2016 Mayor Joyner was also presented with the “Bobby Donavant Public Servant Award” by the Rotary Club of East Memphis.

Always an active member of the Collierville community, Mayor Joyner has been honored by the Collierville Middle School PTA with the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers Life Achievement Award in recognition of service rendered on behalf of children and youth. In May of 2016, the Crosswind PTA honored Mayor Joyner with a National PTA Life Achievement Award which is the highest recognition bestowed by PTA, and it is given only to those who have demonstrated exemplary service in support of children.

Mayor Joyner is a member of the Collierville Chamber of Commerce. An elected member of Collierville High School Alumni Hall of Fame, he also received the prestigious H.R. Houston Award from Leadership Collierville. In 2013, the Mayor served as the honorary Chairman for the Susan G. Komen Memphis Mid-South Race for the Cure.

In addition to many other civic and community causes, he is Paul Harris Fellow with Collierville Rotary, a 2008 graduate of Leadership Collierville and is an avid supporter of Collierville area civic events. A former Sunday school teacher, he attends Collierville United Methodist Church.

The Mayor and his wife, Linda, have been married for 48 years and have three sons, Doug, Adam and Tyler. They are also the very proud grandparents of four granddaughters and four grandsons.
