The system, powered by Hyper-Reach, is replacing the Town’s previous emergency alert phone call/email service from West Communications – a cost savings of $4,000 with added functionality.

“The new system is more user friendly with greater capabilities for alerting citizens. It has a mobile app for easy activation and monitoring, bilingual alerts available in English and Spanish, and Alexa-enabled alerts for visually impaired citizens,” said Mark King, Collierville Fire Department Chief of Administration.

The Town plans to use the service primarily for alerts about severe weather tornado warning and environmental hazards, emergencies, and missing persons. Landline phones are automatically enrolled for community alerts, but residents must create an account to receive alerts via text messages or calls on their cell phones; residents can choose which alerts they receive and how they receive them when registering.

In addition to the broad functionality for residents, the system provides better support for Town staff with training, 24/7 staff assistance and a resident 1-800 hotline, automatic 9-1-1 data integration, and automated weather alerts.

“The bottom line is that delivering emergency alerts through multiple communication platforms is an effective way to provide an additional level of meaningful access for all,” said Chief King.
