Spring projects - curb cuts do require a permit

Post Date:05/01/2024 4:09 AM

What is a curb cut and what does it have to do with your Spring home improvements?

●  A curb cut is when the curb running along the street is altered by creating a ramp/apron for something such as a driveway or redirecting water to provide a drainage solution.

The Town of Collierville requires a curb cut permit to ensure the work does not affect the structural integrity of the curb providing a long-term solution with strong, surrounding infrastructure. An inadequate curb cut can be subject to erosion over time, and possibly create more drainage issues in the future.

Projects that also require a curb cut permit because the project involves an alteration of the ramp/apron from the street to the driveway include:

●  Adding an additional driveway

●  Re-pouring an existing driveway

If the project does not involve the curb, such as a parking pad in a homeowner’s yard, it does not need a curb cut permit.

To apply for a curb cut permit, visit:

Collierville Town Hall, Building and Codes Division

500 Poplar View Parkway

Monday - Friday

7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

(901) 457-2310

There is a standard fee of $100 for all curb cuts, and most projects will require a site map of the lot (unless an existing curb cut is not going to be altered in size.) Once the application is received, it will go through an approval process by both a Town Engineer and Building Inspector. After a physical inspection and site approval, the process is complete.

For any questions involving an existing or future curb cut project, contact the Engineering Division at (901) 457-2340 or email Mike Kelly at mkelly@colliervilletn.gov.
